People & Lifestyle

Redondo Beach provides a quintessentially Californian beachy lifestyle within easy reach of LAX and Downtown Los Angeles. This city of around 67,000 residents also offers some of the best shopping and dining in Greater Los Angeles’ South Bay region. From surfing and volleyball on the sands of Redondo Beach to dining on freshly caught seafood at harbor-view restaurants, life in Redondo Beach is packed with outstanding experiences.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

South Bay Galleria is one of the Greater Los Angeles area’s top retail destinations. Sprawling across more than 950,000 square feet of retail space, South Bay Galleria is anchored by Macy’s, Kohl’s, Target, and discounted womenswear store Q. Other retailers include Abercrombie & Fitch, Aldo, Bath & Body Works, H&M, and Tillys. Wonder of Dinosaurs is a major attraction featuring a museum with 100 dinosaurs and lots of fun dinosaur-themed activities for kids. South Bay Galleria also has a 16-screen AMC Theatres multiplex.

Just steps from the beach, Riviera Village is an exquisite hub of art and retail with numerous galleries and more than 300 shops. It’s also packed with outstanding dining options: highlights include authentic Northern Italian cuisine at Avenue Italy, Spanish and coastal French fare served alongside boutique spirits and wines at Gabi James, Cajun specialties at Matty’s Crawdaddies, elevated pub grub and craft beer at Rebel Republic Social House, and fresh oysters paired with craft cocktails at Riviera House. Along the palm tree-lined waterfront at King Harbor, Bluewater Grill combines a diverse menu of ocean-fresh seafood dishes with magnificent marina views.

Things to Do

The sands of Redondo Beach run for a mile and a half along the city’s oceanfront. Hawaiian surfer George Freeth became the first person to surf in the mainland USA here in 1907, and the beach was later mentioned in the Beach Boys’ “Surfin USA.” Surfing remains a popular activity at the beach—the gentle tides here provide good conditions for swimming, windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and scuba diving. Popular activities also include playing volleyball at one of the many nets dotted along the beach.

The horseshoe-shaped Redondo Beach Pier offers panoramic ocean views and more than 50 shops and eateries. More retailers and restaurants like the King Harbor Brewery can be found along the beachfront International Boardwalk. You can easily stroll from Redondo Beach to Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach to the north and Torrance Beach to the south. King Harbor Marina sits between Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach with 825 boat slips.
